Dear Mr. President

On behalf of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions, Lo-Norway which represents 850.000 workers, we call upon you for the immediate release of Mr. Mansoor Ossanlou, Head of the Bus Workers Union who was arrested since the 7^th of September 2005.

We deeply regret the continued harassment of the trade union leaders and workers in Iran, because they struggle to protect their unions and the workers interests.

LO-Norway strongly condemns the arrest of Mr. Ossanlou and all other trade unionists and workers. LO therefore urges you to take the necessary measures to insure the immediate release of Mr. Ossanlou and that all charges against him and his colleagues be dropped.

Iran is a member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). Hence, your government is obliged to uphold the right to freedom of association and therefore also the right to organise and strike.

LO –Norway urges you to put an immediate end to the daily violations of trade union rights and freedoms.
